5 Reasons to NOT Have a Courthouse Wedding

Traditional courthouse weddings may be a choice for some couples who seek a simple and efficient way to tie the knot. However, I have five compelling reasons why you should consider alternatives to courthouse weddings. There are numerous advantages to exploring other venues and approaches for your wedding to create a lasting memory. To be clear, I’m talking about the regular Courthouse with a Judge or a public servant. We have The Old Courthouse in Evansville, a beautifully renovated venue and space for ceremonies and receptions. I am NOT referring to venues such as these.

Here are some reasons to ditch the Courthouse for your wedding ceremony.

  1. Lack of Personalization: The sterile environment of a courthouse, with its legal procedures and lack of ambiance, can detract from the romantic and sentimental nature of a wedding ceremony. Why not select a venue, such as a scenic outdoor location or a meaningful place that holds sentimental value for you as a couple? A beautiful tree. Angel Mounds. Wesselman Park. The Ohio River as a backdrop! On your wedding day you deserve to have personal touches and create an experience that truly reflects your love story.
  2. Limited Guest List: Courthouse weddings typically have restrictions on the number of guests allowed to attend the ceremony. This limitation can be a real drawback for couples who wish to celebrate their special day with a larger group of family and friends. You should have the capability to invite as many guests as you desire, allowing your family and friends witness your wedding ceremony.
  3. Missed Opportunities for Celebration: A courthouse wedding lacks the festive atmosphere and elements that make weddings memorable. There are no decorations, music, cake and other wedding traditions that you can implement. Zzzzzzzzz.
  4. Limited Flexibility: Courthouse weddings are typically scheduled during business hours and are subject to the availability of the court system. This lack of flexibility can be inconvenient for couples who have specific dates or times in mind or who wish to plan their wedding during weekends or evenings.
  5. You can Choose your Officiant: By choosing a different path or venue for your wedding ceremony, you are also able to choose who will marry you! While everything is always “important” on your wedding day, the REAL reason you’re there is to be married. And having personalized wedding vows and ceremony is SO memorable.

Finally

While courthouse weddings may offer efficiency and simplicity and budget friendly, they may not provide the personalization and feel-good memories for a couple. By exploring other opportunities you can create a wedding experience that is truly reflective of your love story. Break away from the ole’ tradition and make your wedding day truly unforgettable.
